Role of the Teacher


The role of teachers is considered to be one of continual research and learning process, taking place with the children and embedded in team cooperation.  Doing research, reflecting, and listening to children together with other colleagues, contributed to a situation of continuous individual and group professional growth.

They facilitate children’s ability to represent what they know and imagine.

Teachers mediate between children’s current understanding and what they are on the threshold of understanding by:

  • reviewing and helping children tell the story of their own learning

  • arranging new experiences

  • challenges and problems

  • connecting children with resources

  • facilitating group discussions and social interactions

  • reflecting children’s ideas and children’s learning

  • Teachers use the understanding they gain in this way to act as a resource for them.

Our professionals strive to maintain the highest standards of child care. We believe professional development provides teachers with new skills and information on current issues.

  • Diplomas, certificates, or other evidence of training related to child growth/development

  • Current Health assessment and immunization record

  • Successful candidates will be required to provide a current and satisfactory Criminal Reference Check/Vulnerable Sector Search issued no later than six (6) months preceding your start date

  • Written acknowledgement of various legislated and agency specific policies

  • Current First Aid certificate

  • Three successful reference checks

  • Ongoing professional development

  • Annual policy review

  • Class 4 Drivers License is an asset

  • Experience working with children in a childcare setting

  • When permanent staff members are absent, supply staff are employed to deliver our programs.

  • Supply staff must meet the same requirements as the staff being replaced.
